Our History
Although Bethel Pentecostal Church had its official start in 1942, the
ground work for the new assembly had its beginnings in the early 30's.
Different individuals came to Dawson Creek for outreach, starting Sunday
Schools and having services. The gathering of these new believers caused
the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada to send the first pastoral family
to Dawson Creek in 1942, the same year the Alaska Highway was built.
Over the 60+ years, the church has experienced a lot of changes. The church
has twice out grown its facilities and has had to build bigger. The present
church has a seating capacity of just over 500 with a full size gym as well.
In 1979, work began on the present day church building with construction
of the school facilities and was completed in 1980. The first phase of the
building includes a full size gym, office spaces, full size kitchen, and
many class rooms.
In 1981, the second phase of the building was completed and dedicated to
the Lord in October 1981. The second phase included the sanctuary, four
offices, foyer, nursery, a fellowship room with kitchen, etc.
In 1980 Bethel Senior Citizens Housing Society was established for the
purpose of planning and constructing a seniors housing facility. That
project was started in June 1981, the first tenants moved in December
1981, and construction was completed in February 1982. The official opening
was held in March, 1982. For more info, go to the Heritage
Heights Website.
The present day church has a membership of around 90 with Sunday morning
attendance around 250. Over 300 people make up the present day Bethel family.
The church is a beehive of activities, with a full time school and many
other ministries taking place during the week.
Over the years many wonderful people and pastors have come and gone. Many
lives have been touched and ministered to during the years. Bethel continues
to have a strong presence in the city of Dawson Creek and looks forward
to many more years of serving the community.
